Yobe Police deny female officers on IGP’s case from command
The Yobe State Police Command has denied that the case involving the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and two former serving police officers, Chief Superintendent of Police Maryam Innaisa Hammamaude and CSP Justin Gberindyer who dragged the IGP to the National Industrial Court in a suit before Justice Rakiya Bosede Haastrup of the NIC, Abuja, over his alleged refusal to decorate them with their new ranks, are not from the Command.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the two officers had filed a suit at the NIC against Egbetokun, explaining that despite their promotion by the Police Service Commission, the IG of Police still refused to accord and decorate them with their new ranks, thus denying them the associated benefits of their new ranks.
Arewa PUNCH’s investigation of the incident at the Yobe State Police Command, however, revealed that the affected officers are not from the Command, as confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, in a phone interview on Thursday.
Abdulkareem told our correspondent that contrary to reports that the officers were from the Yobe Command, he is still trying to ascertain the command location where the officers retired
“I am aware of the issue and will investigate. Currently, there is no such case in the Yobe Police Command, but I am looking into it,” Abdulkareem stated.
Arewa PUNCH further investigations also revealed that no such case was linked to the Yobe Police Command.
The officers had alleged that the IG’s refusal to decorate them led them to bring the matter to the National Industrial Court, where they filed a suit before Justice Rakiya Bosede Haastrup of the National Industrial Court, Abuja, through their counsel, Barrister Yahya Munka’ila Mavo.
During the hearing, Mavo informed the court that 4449 officers, including the IGP, were promoted to their next ranks during the 19th plenary decision meeting of the Police Service Commission. However, the IGP adamantly refused to implement their promotions until their retirement.
Barrister Yahya Mavo urged the Court to compel the IGP to effect their promotions and grant them all the benefits associated with their new ranks, as the promotions were lawfully conducted.
After hearing arguments from both counsels, the judge adjourned the matter to December 18, 2024, for further proceedings.
