The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has made significant strides in its fight against smuggling and maritime insecurity, making seizures worth N582 million
Under the leadership of Comptroller PN Ntadi, the Command has expanded its facilities, and promoted 36 officers to boost morale.
The Command’s recent achievements include intercepting 1,827 bags of foreign parboiled rice valued at ₦204.6 million, 174 sacks of ammonium sulphate and 86 sacks of polypropylene compounds worth ₦20.1 million, and 1,312 loaves of imported cannabis variants worth over ₦232.8 million. Additionally, they seized 42 kegs of smuggled petrol, 14 outboard engines, and multiple locally made boats.
Ntadi attributed the Command’s successes to the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the dedication of officers and men of the Command. The Command has also undergone significant transformation, including the evacuation of hoodlums occupying land outside its perimeter fence, expansion of its jetty to accommodate more patrol boats, and rehabilitation of outstations at Ere and Bar Beach.
The Command has also invested in its workforce, decorating 36 newly promoted officers and men, and improving welfare facilities such as a modern canteen and sanitary blocks. Four refurbished patrol boats and two upgraded operational vehicles have been added to logistics support, enhancing fleet efficiency.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) praised the Customs Service for intercepting illicit drugs, warning that their potency poses a grave threat to public health and national security.
The Western Marine Command’s renewed momentum is evident in its landmark seizures, refurbished facilities, and motivated workforce, demonstrating Nigeria’s commitment to securing its maritime borders.
