Tin Can Island Customs Hands Over Impounded Illicit Drugs Worth Over N682 M to NDLEA
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tincan Island Command on Thursday handed over three containers of illicit drugs worth over N682 million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, while showcasing and handing over the illicit drugs to the NDLEA said that the action is in line with the existing collaboration and MOU signed between the Customs and the NDLEA.
He added that the Command will hand over more such containers to the NDLEA in the coming weeks.
He said: “In the coming weeks it is our hope and desire to handover several other containers of similar nature after consultations with Customs Headquarters.
“In the interim, the Command having received actionable intelligence on the suspected importation of illicit dangerous drugs from one of the source countries intercepted the three containers which we are showcasing today.”
According to him the illicit drugs weighing 341.025kg were intercepted in three containers.
The details include Container number MSMU 51803012(1x40FT) containing seven packets of cannabis Indica weighing 38.5kg, Container number MSMU 602957/0(1x40FT) containing 532 packets of cannabis indica weighing 265.02kg, Container number: FSCU 927401/3(1x40FT) containing 5 per cent of cannabis indica weighing 37.5 kg.
According to him, at the time of processing the intelligence, no declaration has been entered, and the he shipping company allegedly with respect to the container is MSC .
The Controller gave the assurance that investigation is ongoing and NDLEA is expected to disclose further information on arrests and prosecution of suspects.
He reiterated the NCS’ commitment to curbing illegal importation into Nigeria by deploying all necessary resources and strategies.
