Skill Gap A Major Threat To Nigeria’s Energy Sector Development- NNPCL

The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Nigerian National Petroleum Company NNPC Ltd, Bayo Ojulari, has called on stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to invest in manpower development to ensure continuity in the energy sector, acknowledging that there are critical challenges that currently pose great risk to the sector.

The GCEO, however noted that such risks are summountable through robust policy approach .

Ojulari who called on critical stakeholders to push for collaboration in advancing growth in the Nigerian oil and gas sector space said NNPCL remains committed to pushing for a more robust sector that would not only advance development across board but make it sustainable.

He also advocated for a just energy transition that must be negotiated and not imposed by the outside world.

Ojulari who delivered a keynote address virtually at the opening of Society of Petroleum Engineers International Oil and Gas conference in Lagos on Monday said only a just energy transition can guarantee stability within the global energy landscape.

Also, speaking, the Commission Chief Executive (CCE) of the Nigeria’s Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) Gbenga Komolafe, remarked that this year’s edition with the theme, “Building a Sustainable Energy Future: Leveraging Technology, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Policy,” captures the critical elements that must converge for the upstream sector to remain viable and aligned with global trends.

Komolafe, who was represented by Mr.Enorense Amadasu, Executive Commissioner, Development and Production in the Commission, said that as the Upstream Industry regulator, the Commission’s responsibility goes beyond compliance, adding “We are focused on enabling a stable, efficient, and forward-looking upstream sector, one that balances the imperatives of energy security, environmental responsibility, and economic sustainability.”
