Six arrested as police rescue Kaduna kidnap victim
The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers and recovered four assault rifles in separate operations in Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the operations were part of an ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and illegal arms trafficking in the state.
According to Hassan, one kidnapped victim was rescued during one of the raids with a gunshot wound inflicted by his captors.
The command said the first incident occurred on February 22, 2025, when gunmen invaded the residence of a man in Ungwan Ninzom, Jagindi Tasha, in Jema’a LGA, and abducted his son, identified as Hussaini Ibrahim.
Hassan said the case was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kafanchan, and operatives were immediately deployed.
He said, “Upon receipt of the distress call at about 12:53hrs, a team of officers was deployed to the area to pursue the assailants. Though the suspects initially evaded arrest, we never relented.
“Two days later, on February 24, the victim was found in a nearby bush with a gunshot wound on his leg. He was rescued alive, taken to a nearby clinic for treatment, and later reunited with his family,”
Hassan disclosed that investigation and intelligence gathering led to the arrest of four suspects believed to be members of the kidnap syndicate.
They were identified as Umar Yusuf Jabiri (30) of Jagindi Tasha; Buhari Muhammad, alias General, (31) of Bayya Village; Ahmadu Nasiru (51) of Gidan Waya; and Zakari Saleh (50) also of Gidan Waya.
The police said one English-type AK-47 rifle and three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles were recovered during the operation.
Hassan said the suspects were in custody and would be charged in court upon completion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
In another operation, Hassan said operatives of the command intercepted an illegal arms shipment from Plateau State to Zamfara through Kaduna.
The breakthrough, according to him, occurred on July 23, 2025, around 6:00pm, after operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted a suspicious waybill in Kaduna.
“The consignment, hidden in a sack, was found to contain a fabricated AK-47 rifle. It was traced to a courier en route from Jos to Gusau,” he said.
Hassan added police later arrested two suspects in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, when they arrived to collect the illegal firearm.
“They were identified as Abdulmumin Sani and Naziru Musa. Both suspects are in custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded,” he added.
