SEC Calls For Advanced Investor Awareness Of Capital Market Operations
The Director General (DG) of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Dr. Emomotimi Agama, has emphasized the importance of equipping potential investors with knowledge about opportunities and risks in the capital market to attract more participants and drive economic growth.
Speaking over the weekend during the rollout of the #InvestNigeria enlightenment initiative, Dr. Agama stated that the Commission is committed to making the capital market more accessible and attractive to Nigerians.
In a statement by the SEC, Dr. Agama explained that the primary goal of the initiative is to promote investment in the capital market through advertising, which he noted offers numerous benefits.
“Advertising is a powerful tool for educating potential investors about the benefits and opportunities available in the capital market. It improves financial literacy by helping investors understand various investment products, risks, and rewards. It also provides access to available investment opportunities such as initial public offerings (IPOs), bonds, and mutual funds,” he further explained.
Dr. Agama further noted that the initiative would boost the economy, as increased investment in the capital market leads to greater economic activity, job creation, and GDP growth.
“Advertising can attract both domestic and foreign investment, driving capital formation and financial deepening. This makes financial services more accessible and affordable for Nigerians,” he added.
He also pointed out the benefits for the capital market itself, including increased liquidity, improved market efficiency, and enhanced transparency. These factors, he noted, are essential for a competitive and well-functioning capital market.
As part of the initiative, SEC is deploying advertising across various platforms, including billboards, social media, online ads, and email marketing, to reach a broader audience. The Commission also plans to collaborate with financial influencers, bloggers, and thought leaders to promote investment opportunities.
Additionally, SEC will organize seminars, workshops, and conferences to educate investors and increase awareness of the capital market.
