Police arrest 10 suspected vandals in Jigawa
Jigawa State Police Command has reported the arrest of ten persons suspected of engaging in vandalism across various locations within the state.
According to a statement issued by DSP Shiisu Adams, the command’s spokesperson, the arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to combat vandalism and protect critical infrastructure in the state.
According to Shiisu, three of the suspects were apprehended in Yalleman during an investigation into the vandalism of a transformer belonging to Gajo Farm Yard.
He stated that two suspects hailed from Yalleman town in Kaugama local government area, while the third was from Hadin village within the same locality.
He said another suspect was caught at Mechanic village in Dutse town, found in possession of a significant quantity of burnt copper wires suspected to have been stolen.
“The wires were strongly suspected to be stolen and on interrogation, the suspect confessed to have bought them at the sum of N30,000 from another suspect who is at large.
“Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the principal suspect”, Shiisu said.
The police spokesman added that a four-man syndicate was intercepted along the Kazaure to Roni axis with armored cable wire believed to have been vandalized.
He stated that although the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting security operatives, they were later apprehended.
Shiisu stated that one of the suspects was identified as an ex-staff of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO.
“When interrogated, the suspects confessed to have vandalised the cable that connected Roni and Gwiwa areas with power supply,” he said.
He further stated that another suspect was arrested in Jahun and was found in possession of a burnt armored cable wire suspected to have been vandalized.
