NSIB Probes Hawker 800XP Incident at Kano Airport
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation into an aviation incident involving a Hawker 800XP aircraft, nationality and registration marks 5N-ISB, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State.
The aircraft, operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited, departed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday, 14 December 2025, at approximately 09:20 hours local time. The flight was a non-scheduled domestic passenger operation bound for Kano, with eight persons on board, comprising two flight crew members, one cabin crew member and five passengers.
While on approach into Kano, the flight crew observed an anomaly in the landing gear indication and requested several low passes over the runway to enable air traffic control to visually assess the landing gear configuration. On each pass, the Kano Control Tower confirmed that all three landing gears appeared fully extended.
The aircraft subsequently aligned for landing on Runway 06 and touched down at approximately 10:34 hours local time. During the landing roll, the nose landing gear collapsed. All occupants disembarked safely, and no injuries were recorded.
Following notification of the occurrence, the NSIB immediately activated its Go-Team. Investigators will conduct a comprehensive examination of the aircraft systems, operational procedures, maintenance records and crew actions to establish the factors that led to the incident.
The Bureau reiterates that the purpose of this investigation is not to apportion blame or liability, but to identify safety issues and implement measures to prevent a recurrence.
