The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Aviation Hub has emphasised the need for enhanced collaboration and synergy among all operators in the aviation ecosystem to improve service reliability and customer satisfaction.
This call was made at the 3rd Annual Aviation Public Relations Conference held from September 23 to 26, 2025, with the theme ‘Synergising for Growth: The Role of Public Relations in Advancing Nigeria’s Aviation Hub Agenda’.
The conference resolutions included the effective use of complaint mechanisms by the flying public and the establishment of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) centres in Nigeria. According to the communique signed by the Chairman of the NIPR Aviation Management Hub, Basil Agboarumi, and Secretary of the NIPR Aviation Management Hub, Abiodun Olatunbosun, the conference aimed to foster synergy among industry professionals, develop specialised programmes, and drive sustainable growth within the Nigerian aviation sector.
President of the NIPR, Ike Neliaku,
highlighted the importance of professionalism in public relations practice, noting that the institute is focused on stamping out unprofessional conduct in the industry. “The Institute is very much concerned about the issue of professionalism and the conduct of professionals in the practice of public relations and communications management in the industry”, he said.
Neliaku also emphasised the need for qualified professionals to manage communications in the aviation industry, stating that “the Council is determined to stamp out such illegalities in the system”. He noted that the aviation industry is one that has one of the highest traffic in the country, requiring every ounce of professionalism and professional handling from public relations practitioners.
Agboarumi said the conference was designed to build an umbrella for practitioners of Public Relations in the Aviation sector, exploring issues related to PR practice and driving strategic communication. “If our intention or our focus is to make Nigeria an Aviation hub in Africa, we believe that if we must achieve that, then a lot has to be right in terms of communications and public relations”, he said.
Group Manager, Ibom Air’s Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essien Ette, highlighted the need for strategic communication and effective narrative control in the aviation industry. “There’s need for us to control the narrative when it comes to how the airline and the aviation industry is perceived”, she said, adding that policies should be put in place to make the public understand the extent of damage that sensationalism can cause to the industry and the country’s reputation.
The conference featured presentations by experts on topics including strategic communication in national development and managing public relations crises in the aviation industry.
