Nigeria Begins Automation Of Power Grid System 

 

Nigeria is repositioning the power sector through digitization and automation initiative needed to operate the National Grid.

The project is being driven by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), as part of its mandate to strengthen the fragile grid system.

Managing Director of NISO, Mr Abdubello Mohammed made this known at the unveiling of the Institution’s official Logo in Abuja.

Mr Mohammed said NISO would continue to provide the needed operating environment for the nation’s electricity market to guarantee enhanced and sustainable power supply.

He maintained that, synchronization of Nigeria’s National Grid under the West African Power Project (WAPP) would be achieved in September this year.

“This will give us real-time system visibility, smart data analytics, and modern SCADA/EMS infrastructure”.md stated.

The Electricity Act of 2023 provided for the establishment of the Nigerian Independent System Operator to manage the operations of the nation’s power sector to guarantee efficiency in service delivery and provide a robust partnership amongst key industry players.
