May Day: Ekiti workers celebrated in gloom – PDP
The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for economic hardships in Ekiti State and Nigeria in general.
The opposition party in a statement made available to newsmen by its State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, said that Ekiti State workers celebrated this year’s Workers Day in gloom because the ruling party has failed the masses both at the state and the national level.
“Yesterday was Workers’ Day, a day meant to celebrate workers all over the world, but here in Ekiti State, there was nothing to celebrate because the government is not a workers’ friendly one.
“The condition of civil servants and the retirees is one of the worst in Nigeria. Ekiti State pays a paltry sum of fifteen thousand Naira for civil servants and ten thousand Naira to retire as palliatives for the suffering inflicted on them. What can this achieve in this terrible economic situation?” He queried.
Reacting to the current fuel scarcity and the general high cost of living in the state, the PDP spokesman said that the situation has become unbearable.
He added that, “This terrible situation has reached a breaking point in Ekiti State. A liter of petrol now sells for two thousand Naira, the cost of transportation is terrible, with a deplorable road network.
“Our people now battle with poverty, high cost of living and general state of insecurity”
The opposition party also accused the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji of misplaced priority, stating that while the ordinary citizen was grasping for survival as a result of inhuman policies of the APC controlled federal government, Oyebanji was only interested in embarking on projects that have no direct positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of Ekiti people.
“Recently, our party called the attention of the governor to his oversized cabinet, which we warned will lead to avoidable wastage, yet he has continued to make more appointments for political patronage.
“It will not surprise anybody if the Ekiti State government decides to shift all the blame on the clueless policies of the APC controlled Federal government because their party is only good at trading blames and making excuses.
“Since the inception of the APC government in Nigeria, the ordinary citizens have not experienced any respite.
“Immediately their party took over from President Goodluck Jonathan, it has been one excuse or another. President BolaTinubu has also continued to blame his own failure on his predecessor from the same party. “
