LASG pledges water supply to 10,000 Ikeja households
The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos Water Corporation, has pledged to supply potable water to at least 10,000 households in Akilo Community and its environs in the Ikeja area.
A Monday statement noted that this was made known during an engagement with the residents, which took place at the Akilo Waterworks on Saturday, where the LWC officially announced the completion of the Akilo Waterworks rehabilitation and readiness for water production and distribution.
Speaking at the meeting, the Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, Mukhtaar Tijani, represented by the Director, Community Commercial and Customer Relations, Adepeju Isola, urged members of the community to embrace the efforts of the corporation, with the support of WaterAid Nigeria, by connecting to the water supply.
He further assured that production would be done consistently and that there would be an adequate water supply to every home.
The MD also urged the community to promptly contact LWC staff in cases of burst pipes, vandalism, or illegal connections.
He noted that there would be flexible options in the water supply system, including billing, metering, or purchasing from kiosks.
This, he explained, was to enable customers to select whichever option best suited them.
The State Programme Lead, WaterAid, Dr. Adebayo Alao, assured residents that water production had come to stay in Akilo and that they should have no doubt about its sustainability.
Alao further admonished the residents to pay their bills regularly to ensure the sustainability of the water project.
“I am sure you would not be happy if, after three or six months, you discover no more water production. Therefore, you should pay your bills for the system to continue running,” he stressed.
