The Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Saturday  December 6, 2025 carried out a comprehensive sanitation exercise across the Command Headquarters and Sam Ango Barracks in Birnin Kebbi, in a move aimed at strengthening workplace hygiene, esprit de corps, and overall operational efficiency.

Led by the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, the environmental cleanup brought together officers and men of the Command in a display of unity and shared responsibility. The exercise covered sweeping, weeding, raking, refuse burning, and general cleaning of residential quarters and surrounding areas.

Addressing personnel during the activity, Ibrahim underscored the importance of maintaining a clean and conducive environment, describing it as central to the effective execution of the Service’s core mandates.

“A clean and conducive environment equips us with the right state of mind to efficiently deliver on our core responsibilities of revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation”, he said.

He emphasised that the general sanitation was not merely a routine cleanup, but a deliberate effort to build cooperation and teamwork between the rank and file. According to him, shared activities such as this reinforce discipline, enhance morale, and ultimately improve service delivery.

The CAC further directed all Officers-in-Charge and Patrol Team Leaders to replicate the sanitation exercise in every border station and outstation under the Command. He assured that such environmental maintenance activities would be conducted regularly as part of a broader strategy to promote cleanliness, orderliness, and mental preparedness across all formations.

The event also featured a brief interactive session on self-development between the CAC and participating officers.
