JAC suspends strike in Bauchi State tertiary institutions
The Joint Action Committee, JAC, of Academic and Non-Academic Staff Unions in Bauchi State tertiary institutions has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike.
This was contained in a statement by JAC Chairman, Engineer Abubakar Ahmed, after an emergency congress held on January 8, 2025, at the ASUP Secretariat Conference Hall, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic.
Starting from January 2, 2025, it brought to a grinding halt activities in top institutions that included Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education Kangere, AD Rufai College of Education Legal and General Studies Misau, Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare, Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Technology Ningi, among others.
He explained that the suspension of the strike was to give room for negotiation of outstanding issues as a result of the intervention of the Bauchi State House of Assembly and other critical stakeholders.
Consequentially, the strike has been called off from 9th January to 5th February, 2025.
He added that the suspension was conditional and called for the non-victimization of the union members because of the happenings during the industrial action.
Ahmed also stressed that “the union will not hesitate to resume the strike if their demands are not heeded within the stipulated period”.
The JAC directed its members to resume work with effect from January 9, 2025, while restating its commitment to the protection of the welfare and interest of staff in Bauchi State’s tertiary institutions.
