Independence Day: Nigeria must embark on serious self-searching – ACC
The Allied Conservative Congress, ACC, has said that Nigeria must embark on a serious self-searching as it turns 64.
Nigeria is celebrating its 64th Independence anniversary on Tuesday and ACC noted that it is by God’s mercy that the country remains united despite political upheavals, economic stagnation, socio-religious disharmony and insecurity.
The party, however, said there is hope of a brighter future, adding that the difficulties of today will be a testimony of God’s faithfulness tomorrow.
In a statement signed by Rev. Olusegun Peters, National Chairman, ACC, the party called on Nigerians to remain prayerful, tolerant and patriotic.
“Nigeria’s 64th Independence is yet another opportunity to do serious soul-searching and renew our faith in the fatherland. The challenges are enormous and so are the opportunities if we collectively resolve to build a prosperous democratic nation with conservative ideology.
“It is obvious that there is hardship and hunger in the land, compounded by insecurity. The Federal Government should take governance seriously and act fast to revive the economy and restore national security.
“Nigerians are fed up with excuses by elected public officers on why they cannot deliver dividends of democracy and usher in a new era of prosperity.
“It is time to hold governments at all levels accountable as obtainable in advanced democracies. A country blessed with many human and natural resources cannot be impoverished by self-seeking politicians and their cronies.
“It is time for well meaning Nigerians to stand up and be counted in the quest for a new, better and greater Nigeria,” he said.
ACC said it will “continue to champion good governance and the enthronement of genuine democracy with conservative ideology,” adding that “it is the panacea to the nation’s perennial economic, political and security challenges.”
