GOV ENO RESOLVES NURSING INDEXING CRISIS

. . .secures admission expansion for A’Ibom College of Nursing
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has brought relief to hundreds of young Akwa Ibom sons and daughters whose dreams of becoming professional nurses had been delayed by indexing quota challenges at the Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing.
The development follows the Governor’s direct intervention which led to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria approving the indexing of 275 nursing students who had been unable to regularize their admission status for nearly two years, as well as granting the College an additional 150 admission slots.
Governor Eno’s decisive action came after the upgrade of the former School of Nursing to a College of Nursing, which had created regulatory and administrative bottlenecks that left many students stranded despite completing months of study and clinical training.
Moved by the plight of the affected students, Governor Eno directed the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, to work closely with the Nursing and Midwifery Council to find a lasting solution.
The Governor’s efforts have now yielded positive results, with all affected students cleared for indexing and the State’s training quota officially expanded.
The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, while announcing the breakthrough, described it as a landmark moment for the State’s healthcare sector.
He said further described the approval as a strategic investment in the future of healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom and applauded the Governor for his compassion and decisive leadership.
The Commissioner further noted that the expansion of the admission quota is a clear demonstration of the Governor’s continuous investment in healthcare infrastructure, manpower development, and academic excellence in the nursing profession.
He added that the new quota will allow the State to train more nurses to fill workforce gaps in hospitals and primary healthcare centres, particularly in rural areas.
Dr. Emmanuel explained that, the decision will enhance the ongoing reform in the Health Sector under the ARISE Agenda, which focuses on strengthening human resources, upgrading facilities, and improving access to quality healthcare across Akwa Ibom.
With this new approval, the Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing is now set to welcome a new generation of students who are better supported, more confident, and well-positioned to serve humanity.
‘I am pleased to inform all that at the Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing, relief has finally arrived. All 275 students who were unable to be indexed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) can now breathe a sigh of relief – thanks to the direct intervention of Governor Umo Eno and his administration’s tireless commitment to fairness, reform, and human development.”he said.
