FG approves promotion of 95 senior paramilitary officers
The Federal Government has approved the promotion of 95 top management officers across the Nigeria Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Announcing the decision on Friday, the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, Maj. Gen. A.M Jibril (retd.), said the promotions were part of resolutions reached at the board’s meeting.
According to him, the elevation affected officers from the ranks of Controllers, Comptrollers, and Commandants up to Assistant Controllers-General and Deputy Controllers-General across the four services.
“This approval is a recognition of merit, professionalism, and the invaluable service these officers have rendered to their respective agencies and to the country at large,” he stated.
He further revealed that the board had also considered and approved the constitution of a committee to develop a harmonised Scheme of Service for the four services.
“This harmonisation is crucial to ensuring uniformity in service structure and operational synergy among the paramilitary services,” he said.
In addition to the promotions, the board reviewed 224 disciplinary cases involving officers of the services.
He said the decisions reached ranged from dismissal and compulsory retirement to exoneration, warning letters, and loss of seniority.

“These disciplinary measures reflect the board’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct. Discipline remains the bedrock of any functional security architecture,” Jibril stated.
He warned officers to remain above board in the discharge of their duties, adding, “While we reward hard work, we shall not hesitate to sanction infractions. Every officer must uphold the integrity of the uniform they wear.”
On recruitment, Maj. Gen. Jibril announced that online applications into the four services and the Board Secretariat would commence on Monday, July 14, 2025. He cautioned prospective applicants against fraudsters.
“The process will be seamless, open, and in strict adherence to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Nigerians should disregard any individual or platform demanding money for recruitment slots.”
He also disclosed that the 2025 promotion exercise would begin in August and conclude in November 2025, stressing that the timelines had been approved and preparations were underway.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, Jibril said, “To whom much is given, much is expected. This is not just a reward—it is a call to greater responsibility. We expect you to bring your experience, leadership, and patriotism to bear in your new roles.”
