Eid-el-Maulud: Govs, CAN call for peace, unity

State governors; the First Lady of the country, Christian Association of Nigeria; and others have urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country.

In separate goodwill messages marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad, they called on citizens to emulate his humility, compassion, justice, tolerance, and selflessness.

The First Lady congratulated Muslims, describing the day as a moment for reflection and supplication for national stability and growth.

She said the celebration serves as a reminder of the Prophet’s exemplary life of humility, compassion, forgiveness, and devotion to Allah.

“This celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad is a time to reflect on his exemplary life. As we mark this blessed day, let us continue to pray for our nation—for peace, prosperity, and progress,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu urged Nigerians to imbibe love, kindness, and unity as vital for peaceful coexistence.

In his message, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Muslims to embrace harmony, love, and service to humanity.

He stated that Nigeria could overcome its challenges if leaders and citizens alike embraced harmony, kindness, and mutual respect.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, said the Prophet’s teachings should guide daily interactions, calling on residents of the state to support his administration’s “new thinking” agenda.

Similarly, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, congratulated Muslims and described the Prophet’s teachings as timeless.

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, called for renewed faith and prayers for peace.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, urged citizens to embrace compassion, justice, humility, and unity, noting that the Prophet’s values offer enduring lessons for both leaders and citizens.

“As we commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, let us continue building a Kaduna State that reflects these values by empowering our youths with quality education, strengthening healthcare, expanding economic opportunities, promoting interfaith harmony, and building infrastructure for a brighter future,” he said.

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, in a goodwill message through his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Misilli, urged Muslims to embrace tolerance, humility, and generosity.

He said the Maulud should strengthen faith and unity, assuring citizens of his administration’s economic and security efforts.

The governor reiterated his government’s resolve to maintain peace in Gombe and urged prayers for progress.

Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, also called for reflection on peace, compassion, and tolerance.

He urged prayers for unity and collective progress in Edo and Nigeria.

CAN Preaches Justice and Fairness

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said Eid-el-Maulud should be seen as a sacred opportunity to build unity across faiths.

“Eid-el-Maulud is a reminder of values that transcend religion—humility, compassion, justice, and devotion to God. Leaders must prioritise justice, ease hardship, and strengthen unity,” he said.

Okoh urged political leaders to embrace fairness in governance, adding that Nigerians must reflect on their shared humanity and responsibility for peace.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, congratulated officers, soldiers, and Nigerians, describing the Prophet’s teachings as a guide for compassion and service.

“I urge you to observe this event as a time for reflection on unity, commitment, and loyalty. As the Prophet brought hope and good tidings, so must we promote peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Musa assured the public of the military’s resolve to safeguard lives, uphold the law, and support national prosperity.

Similarly, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, congratulated Abuja residents, praising their commitment to peace.

He pledged to improve infrastructure, security, and healthcare, while urging compassion and unity.

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, urged Nigerians to uphold law, peace, and unity, describing the Prophet as an embodiment of compassion.

He said unity is vital in the fight against insecurity, urging forgiveness and adherence to the Prophet’s teachings.

Senator Lawal Usman of Kaduna Central asked Nigerians to pray fervently for peace, security, and economic prosperity.

He lamented hardship and insecurity, saying only prayers and adherence to the Prophet’s teachings could bring solutions.
