Apapa Customs, NDLEA Seize 1,187kg Of Canadian Loud At Lagos Port Complex – Daily Focus Nigeria
Barely five days after the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted 25.5kg of cocaine aboard a Brazilian-flagged vessel, the two agencies have again recorded a major breakthrough with the seizure of a large consignment of Canadian Loud, a high-grade strain of cannabis, at the Apapa Port, Lagos.
Acting on credible intelligence provided by the NDLEA, operatives of both agencies uncovered 2,374 packages of cannabis concealed in 55 bags and hidden inside a 1x20ft container (No. FCIU 6369526) carrying two imported vehicles. The total weight of the illicit substance is 1,187kg.
The discovery was made during a joint examination of the container by officers of the NCS and NDLEA. The seized drugs have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation. Preliminary analysis shows that the cannabis was packaged in 500-gram sachets.
Commenting on the seizure, the Customs Area Controller, Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, praised the strong inter-agency collaboration between the NCS and NDLEA, reiterating the Service’s zero-tolerance stance on smuggling and drug trafficking.
“Few days ago, I stated clearly that no consignment will leave this port without thorough examination. Our synergy as government agencies will always keep us ahead of criminal elements,” he said.
He further stressed that national security and economic integrity would never be compromised for trade facilitation. “No matter the volume of trade we process, we will not sacrifice national security and the economy. While we are committed to collecting maximum revenue for the government, our eagle-eyed officers remain alert at all times.”
The Comptroller also issued a stern warning to importers, exporters, freight forwarders, and licensed customs agents. “Let me once again warn anyone who dares to test our resolve this Yuletide season and beyond that they will face the full wrath of the law. Investigations into this seizure are ongoing, and the perpetrators will be brought to book,” he added.
