House Committee on Aviation Pledges Support as FAAN Governing Board Kicks Off Strategic Retreat

The House Committee on Aviation has expressed its full support for the newly inaugurated Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Governing Board, emphasising collaboration to strengthen the nation’s aviation sector.
The goodwill message was delivered by the Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation at the opening ceremony of the FAAN Governing Board Retreat 2025, themed “Future-Proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernization & Strategic Renewal”.
Addressing the Chairman of the FAAN Governing Board, Baba Abdullahi Ganduje, and board members, the committee chairman congratulated Ganduje on his appointment, describing him as a leader whose vision and track record would “catapult FAAN to a position of excellence not just within Nigeria, but across the African continent”.
“The House Committee on Aviation stands ready to offer its full cooperation and support to your Board”, he said, noting the critical role FAAN plays in national development.
Highlighting key priorities for the retreat, the committee called on the board to focus on several strategic areas:
Organisational Restructuring for Efficiency: The committee urged a review and possible restructuring of FAAN’s directorates and departments to improve operational efficiency. Of particular importance is the elevation of the Procurement Department to a full-fledged department under the Office of the Chief Accounting Officer, in line with the Public Procurement Act, 2007.
Safety and Security Paramountcy: Ensuring the highest standards of airport and airspace safety and security was emphasized as non-negotiable, with a call to adopt global best practices.
Sustainable Aviation Practices: The committee encouraged initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency, and promote environmentally sustainable operations.
Elevating Passenger Experience: Improving service quality and passenger satisfaction across all touchpoints in Nigerian airports was highlighted as a central mission for the board.
Strategic Partnerships for Growth: The board was urged to foster collaborations with local and international stakeholders to attract expertise, technology, and investment, thereby expanding FAAN’s capabilities and reach.
Describing the retreat as a “unique opportunity to lay a solid foundation for the future of FAAN,” the committee chairman said the board’s commitment to leadership, modernisation, and strategic renewal aligns with Nigerians’ aspirations for world-class aviation infrastructure.
He concluded by wishing the board productive deliberations and success in charting transformative strategies to future-proof FAAN and propel Nigeria’s aviation sector to new heights.
The retreat brings together FAAN board members, management, and key stakeholders to deliberate on long-term strategic plans, with the goal of modernising the authority’s operations and enhancing Nigeria’s aviation competitiveness.
