The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officially commenced its four-day Board and Stakeholders Retreat yesterday December 2, 2025, at Lake Greenfield Hotel, Kado, Abuja, with a strong focus on modernising Nigeria’s airports and strengthening operational efficiency.
Welcoming participants, FAAN Governing Board Chairman, His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, described the retreat as a critical platform to align stakeholders on the future direction of the Authority. Themed “Future-Proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernisation and Strategic Renewal”, the retreat seeks to address emerging trends, improve operational efficiency, and enhance service delivery across Nigerian airports.
“This retreat is designed to renew our collective commitment to strengthening FAAN and preparing it for the future”, Ganduje said. “Our discussions will examine aviation infrastructure development, institutional strengthening, policy coordination, and collaboration among all agencies operating within our airport ecosystem”.
Ganduje acknowledged the continued support of President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the Renewed Hope Agenda as a key driver of reforms revitalising Nigeria’s airports. He also commended the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, for providing vision and leadership at a time the aviation sector requires bold thinking and decisive action.
He praised the collaborative working relationship between the FAAN Governing Board and Management, led by Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku, noting that the synergy has strengthened oversight and contributed to smoother airport operations nationwide.
During his address, Ganduje outlined key focus areas for the retreat, including:
Strengthening leadership culture across all levels to promote integrity, accountability, and excellence.
Accelerating modernization through upgraded infrastructure, enhanced security systems, and adoption of digital solutions in line with global standards.
Investing in staff welfare and capacity development, recognising employees as the engine of organisational progress.
Improving operational efficiency and revenue generation to ensure financial sustainability.
Deepening collaboration with regulators, security agencies, airlines, development partners, and private investors.
Advancing passenger experience and unified security architecture to enhance airport safety and service quality.
Ganduje emphasised the importance of open dialogue and bold thinking, urging participants to challenge assumptions and propose innovative solutions. “Together, we can build a FAAN that honours progress while confidently embracing the next phase of growth—a FAAN that is resilient, future-ready, and globally competitive”, he said.
The retreat, which runs from December 2 to 5, 2025, brings together FAAN board members, management, and key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies aimed at modernising airport operations, enhancing security, and positioning Nigeria’s aviation sector for sustainable growth.
